Cultural Association Gaetano Osculati

"... I applied myself to this, that my travels were no longer just a vain pasture to my innate curiosity and restlessness, but directed to another purpose, that they could advance science and benefit society" - Gaetano Osculati, 1854

Named after the daring explorer born in 1808 in S. Giorgio al Lambro (Monza Brianza), the Cultural Association Gaetano Osculati makes its debut on the stage of the civic hall of Biassono on a cold night in December 2012. With a theatrical performance written by the young fellow citizen Claudia Porta (author of "Sbramami"), immediately clarifies its goals: to build bridges of international collaboration and enhance the talents of Italy, starting from the rediscovery of its explorers' history.
The Association calendar includes no fewer than 30 events a year, with presentations of globetrotting souls, tourist boards, snow grooming books, but also insights into the culture of travel and themed shows (see WALL). In the domestic and foreign footsteps of Italian explorers, tours throughout Italy and remapping of frontier itineraries are also periodically organized, launching twinning events with museums and institutions. From October 2018, on the occasion of the 210th anniversary of Gaetano Osculati's birth, the most important memoir of the explorer from Brianza is available again, published by Luni Editrice with the title "Viaggio in Amazzonia" ("Journey to Amazon") and edited by Alberto Caspani.
